Investment focus

We have a passion for systematically exploring future-relevant themes and trends. Throughout history, investors that have bet on a megatrend at an early stage have outperformed the market by a considerable margin. With this in mind, currently we focus on the following promising themes:

Asia

Asia will have a major influence on the world economy in the 21st century. We have been accompanying our clients through numerous Asian and global megatrends with a wide variety of investment products since 2005, and we intend to continue to do so in the future.

Asia

Asia will have a major influence on the world economy in the 21st century. We have been accompanying our clients through numerous Asian and global megatrends with a wide variety of investment products since 2005, and we intend to continue to do so in the future. It is important for us to identify at an early stage any themes that have the potential to become megatrends, and to make it possible for our clients to invest in these. China is well on the way to becoming an economic superpower. With the new ‘Silk Road’ mega-project, it is also investing in major infrastructure initiatives for trade and transport beyond its borders. The recovery of the ASEAN states, the increasing importance of India and the rapid growth of e-commerce in the region is giving rise to new, more widely dispersed consumer structures. In the long term, we see promising investment opportunities in the Asian market, particularly in the areas of retail, education, healthcare and tourism. These will be driven mainly by greater technological advancement in the fields of artificial intelligence, industrial automation, robotics and the Internet of Things, and also by the enormous progress being made in the area of education. We believe the growing momentum and the opportunities presented by the Asian markets should be weighted accordingly in an internationally oriented portfolio.

Disruptive Technology

Traditional technologies and production methods are being revolutionised and replaced faster than ever before. This is giving rise to new markets characterised by linear rather than exponential growth. For example, we use Uber instead of traditional taxis, we ask Amazon’s Alexa whether to leave the house with or without an umbrella, we book our holiday accommodation through Airbnb and Booking.com, and we let our architect show us around our new home using virtual reality before a single brick has been laid. But it is not only consumers who are exposed to revolutionary technological developments. Disruptive new technologies will also shake up entire industries and transform the way that companies are structured and operate. We have been offering diversified investment solutions in the areas of e-commerce, 3D printing, IOT, VR & AR, robotics and automation, blockchain, artificial intelligence and e-mobility since 2013.

What’s next? With the rise of Industry 4.0, new technologies are already emerging that have the potential to revolutionise markets and turn science fiction into reality. True ageing, 3D hologram technology, artificial meat and SpaceTec are just some of these. Quantum computers and quantum internet promise unimaginable computing power on a whole new level compared with the potential offered by today’s AI, and is likely to push the existing frontiers of knowledge. Whatever the future holds, we are constantly on the look-out for promising new technologies that have the potential to become the next megatrend.

Sustainability Revolution

Using the earth’s resources more sustainably is becoming an increasingly important issue worldwide, both in politics and business. Sustainability is a core value that affects consumption habits, particularly for Generation Y (or ‘Millennials’). The main beneficiaries of this paradigm shift are companies that offer technologies and solutions that reduce, eliminate or even reverse the impact of human activities on the environment. These companies operate in the areas of renewable energy, energy storage, the sharing economy, recycling, food production, intelligent transport systems, water and wastewater treatment, digitalisation of energy systems and the integration of ‘smart’ technologies into the economy. We have been investing in sustainable investment themes since 2009 and offer our clients various investment opportunities in the future-relevant area of sustainability.

Silver Economy

Demographic change is unstoppable. In industrialised countries, the number of pensioners is growing up to three times faster than other sections of the population. Seniors own three quarters of the wealth in these countries and their willingness to spend is high.

Silver Economy

Demographic change is unstoppable. In industrialised countries, the number of pensioners is growing up to three times faster than other sections of the population. Seniors own three quarters of the wealth in these countries and their willingness to spend is high. According to Euromonitor, spending by over 60-year-olds worldwide will increase to USD 15 trillion by 2020. Since people’s needs change with age, this ‘natural’ megatrend is creating opportunities for businesses and long-term investment possibilities for investors – particularly in the areas of healthcare, leisure and retail. At the same time, new technology is being developed for the target group of ‘seniors’. We have been offering our clients attractive investment solutions in the ‘silver economy’ since 2014.

Special Themes

In addition to these promising megatrends, the JPV investment universe also covers traditional investment themes that appear less frequently on the radar of investors, mainly because they enjoy less media coverage. However, this does not necessarily make them less interesting or lucrative.

Special Themes

In addition to these promising megatrends, the JPV investment universe also covers traditional investment themes that appear less frequently on the radar of investors, mainly because they enjoy less media coverage. However, this does not necessarily make them less interesting or lucrative. Since 2003, we have been evaluating a constant stream of innovative investment opportunities for our clients in traditional sectors with a low correlation to the established equity markets – and the results speak for themselves. For example, we identified the lucrative business of fish farming at an early stage and made it investable (Global Fish Basket). We also filtered out the European markets and countries where real estate prices have the potential to increase significantly (European Real Estate Basket). Further special themes that have performed well include SMEs in German-speaking countries (Hidden Champions), tourism (Travel & Leisure Basket), the beverage segment (Global Drinks Basket) and Switzerland’s renowned capacity for innovation in the corporate sector (Swiss Innovation Basket). Do you have your own ideas for traditional investment themes? Would you like to include them in your portfolio? We will be pleased to share our many years of experience and our extensive knowledge network with you and assist you with your equity selection and asset allocation (e.g. for a basket).
